Blissing Out On Action

“Becoming More Like The Land” by Bailey Constas

I wasn’t expecting an “action required” email to send me into a state of bliss…but I suppose that’s what the universe is trying to communicate to me. Make your dreams a reality, and do it now.

I’m moving into the next round of Creative Capital’s Wild Futures 2023 grant. I opened the email, and tears immediately welled behind my eyes remembering the proposal I sent. Creating community gardens at truck stops, that incorporate accessibility to reporting sexual assault, plant medicine, and safe community spaces.

I thought about myself after being sexually assaulted 8 years ago, not having any idea of where to go, or what kind of resources I needed. I went to the police, but only after years of processing and reclaiming memories. The DA didn’t think I had enough evidence even after years of surgeries from injuries, therapy, and psych meds. All that said, I had it pretty good in comparison to many women who don’t make it out alive. This can’t go unaddressed, but it must be met with love.

So here I am, moving into the next stage of this grant application because I put my wildest dream into the world—and other humans envisioned it too.

All of this after a successful weekend connecting with so many people at Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg, and two weeks from the move, has me blissed out!

Time to get to work.

I still have some great pieces left after the fair this weekend, so get them while you can without shipping!
